What does the word 'Zion' mean to you? Using that word as a focus brings up a lot of ideas, and songs for some of them.
The above landscape is in Zions National Park found in Utah, USA. This stunning landscape, as many others found around the world, is a place to feel awe and in harmony with God and His incredible creations.
Zion is the Holy City and House of God. It is a place we strive to build and to live within. We build Temples and Cathedrals in His name. We strive with our neighbors to live in love and harmony as a Zion community. Does it exist today? It does in the holy places I can get away to worship and be in communion with God. And I find Zion in my neighborhood; beyond any differences of race, religion or politics, we look out for each other.

Zion is the land promised of God. From ancient days the God of Israel continually refers to the Land of Promise set aside for His children, specifically the land surrounding today's Jerusalem and the site of their first temple. Unfortunately it is a land that has been continually fraught with political division, and fought over even to today. This battle between His children hurts my heart.

Zion is the Church of God. As we gather as brothers and sisters in God's name we become His people. We celebrate the glorious creation of this earth; we strive for peace with all men; we serve together as God's hands; we see God's handiwork in actions of others; we give thanks for blessings bestowed.

Zion is the people of God. "Let Zion rejoice, for this is Zion—the pure in heart." (D&C 97:21) I like this definition the best, for it means I can be in Zion wherever I am. Do I occasionally step outside? Of course, I do; but I can recognize when I am stepping back in, when I can feel love and gratitude dwelling with me.
Zion then becomes all of the above. I am God's and He is mine. In His house, His land, His church, His people.
