JUNE 29–July 5: THE IMPOSSIBLE
Come Follow Me “If the Lord Be God, Follow Him”1 Kings 12–13; 17–22
The prophet Elijah was good at showing impossible things the Lord can do: Tablespoons of oil and grain that never run out, a son brought back to life, flames self-combusting on water-soaked wood.
One thing that was asked - show your trust in the Lord first. Be willing to sacrifice before expectation of a blessing. ‘Before I bring my need I will bring my heart. Before I lift my cares I will lift my arms. I want to keep you first.’
First - Lauren Daigle
Even in view of such miracles the Lord’s chosen nation turned from Him, divided. Under foolish kings they embraced the ideology of the world around them. How easy it is to do when the voices of the world can be so loud and become so popular, feeding stress and pressure to perform. What kind of god is this brand of perfectionism coming from?
Where can we hear the true God? ‘No more listening to all the lies that I’ve let in, anything that doesn’t sound like you. Your voice brings peace, calms my anxieties, calling me back to what is true.’

When feeling overwhelmed by perceived expectations - remember God who does impossible things. In our lives. His love is peace. Knowing that in spite of failure, or loss, or dire threats against us, with Him all will be well. This happens to me over and over, His peace overriding feelings of doom.
‘The waves still rise, the storm still roars...As I behold you Lord, I change, Your work in me will not be swayed.’
God of the Impossible - Songs of Wisdom
“And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” [1 Kings 19:11-12]
