JULY 21-27: Where “Much Is Given Much Is Required”
Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants 81-83
"Where much is given, much is required." So says Uncle Ben to Peter Parker, that becomes his driving force upon discovering his spidey-senses: To do good in the world, protect who you can. Anonymously, if you can get away with that.
D&C 81 teaches that to 'succor the weak, lift up the hands that hang down, and [to] strengthen the feeble knees' is doing the 'greatest good unto [our] fellow beings.' Just like a Rabbi from Nazareth did in his earthly ministry.
He still succors the weak, strengthens feeble knees. I've felt him many times lifting my hands and head that are hanging down. Have you? So then, how can I not do likewise when I am able?
In these songs, I hope you'll find one that resonates with you, helping you to remember to help others in your own way.
Help and Serve the Poor and Needy - Todd Schreiner
I learned years ago that we cannot change another person. We can only change ourselves. Yet, in changing the way we interact with another will change our relationship with them. Try it out. Embrace a change.
Jesus People - Danny Gokey
A change I've learned to embrace in past years is in seeing the love the divine has for the lost, the value of one who society may have discarded. Being with those coming out of incarceration I witness remarkable changes in those who embrace God's love for them, rely on Him to lift them back up. They are beautiful and wondrous, grateful, giving and loving. And are in contrast with those who won't turn upward for help, determined in their own course that keeps them in their struggles, keeps them in bitterness and pain. It's our choice, what we embrace.
Helping Hand - gloryfall
There are many around the world, from many faiths or persuasions for good that dedicate time from their own coarse to serve their fellowmen, to serve God. I know this kind of service changes you first and foremost. I am grateful for you and your dedication to someone beyond yourself, reaching upward as you reach outward.
I Will /Serve Him - Daniel Beck, by Sara Lyn Baril
If I help two people, and they help two others, then they each help two others .... It becomes an infinitely better world, eventually for all.
