DECEMBER 1-7: “The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead”
Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants 137-138
Redeem definition: 1. compensate for the faults or bad aspects of (something). 2. gain or regain possession of (something) in exchange for payment.
In the Bible, redemption generally means that someone has lost something through injustice, debt, or death, and someone else has stepped in to buy the lost property back and restore it to its rightful owner. Payment was generally paid by a near-kinsman. Synonyms deliver, ransom, reclaim, rescue, and save all mean “to set free from confinement or danger,” while redeem implies releasing from bondage or penalties by giving what is demanded or necessary.
City of Enoch teaches from the perspective of the woman who was healed from an issue of blood that she had suffered for twelve years. Considered unclean, she, by law, was not allowed to touch another person. For twelve years! And yet, she was so convinced that she need only touch the garment of the healer that she risked being ‘in town’ on a ‘crowded street’, getting close enough only to reach his hem. What belief! Because of this show of faith, she was redeemed back into society.
Sweet Redeemer – City of Enoch
Peter refers to Jesus visiting those in Spirit Prison. 1 Peter 3:19 “After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits—”, 4:5 “But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead.”
Spirit Prison would be where souls must remain until they can move on. And until Christ broke the bands of death, none could be resurrected and advance in eternal progression. Imagine how his teaching there was received with much more enthusiasm than had been while He taught on earth!
From Death to Life – Worthy of Praise
1 Peter 4:35 “And so it was made known among the dead, both small and great, the unrighteous as well as the faithful, that redemption had been wrought through the sacrifice of the Son of God upon the cross. 36 Thus was it made known that our Redeemer spent his time during his sojourn in the world of spirits, instructing and preparing the faithful spirits of the prophets who had testified of him in the flesh;” “50 For the dead had looked upon the long absence of their spirits from their bodies as a bondage. 51 These the Lord taught, and gave them power to come forth, after his resurrection from the dead, to enter into his Father’s kingdom, there to be crowned with immortality and eternal life.”
The Prayer/Savior, Redeemer Of My Soul – Eleny
I echo with Peter, with the many who have been redeemed from their prisons, that I know that my redeemer lives. He is Jesus Christ.
I believe that many of us will be called to teach on the other side, as He did. I believe that is what my parents are doing right now, even as I feel them looking over their family still on earth.

Because He lives, so will I live after death. So will you.
