AUGUST 11-17: “Establish … a House of God”
Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants 88
How do we establish a house of God? The reading this week tells of light shining in brightness as the sun, moon and stars. It reaffirms of a governing law over all, a truth that light cleaves to light and shines in the darkness. So our house is of God when it is filled with light.
This arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee is one of my favorites, and BYU Vocal Point astounds! Anyone who needs to breathe can't perform like this! It became especially meaningful when I looked up the Latin phrases and learned what it means. Let me share:
Latin Phrases (arranged by James Stevens):
In articulo mortis: "At the moment of death".
Caelitus mihi vires: "My strength is from heaven".
Deo adjuvante non timendum: "God helping, nothing should be feared".
In perpetuum: "Forever".
Dirige nos Domine: "Direct us, O Lord".
Ad augusta per angusta: "To high places by narrow roads".
Sic itur ad astra: "Such is the path to the stars".
Excelsior: "Ever upward".

And as we are looking upward we may come to recognize 'Mal’akh a Yahuah', meaning an Angel of God.

Teens know too well the cruelty of bullying. Unfortunately, some never grow out of being the bullies, or healing from being attacked by them. It effects us of all ages.
Jason Gray deftly teaches all of us, teens and older, that we can find resilience as we bring inside the healing light of the divine. Then let it glow from us.
Glow In The Dark - Jason Gray
I'm sure that, like me, you have known times that overcame you with sorrow, depression, or anxiety. Unfortunately too many of us get stuck in the dark place for far too long. Sadly, some lose hope of finding a way out.
When does darkness end? The moment there is a pinprick of light. Run to it, open it, let it in.
Light In The Darkness - Amarante
"Love is a dangerous thing, Hearts can be shattered to pieces
Joy can quickly turn to sorrow. Still we have hope for tomorrow
Soaring through all of this madness, Searching for light in the darkness
All of our love is worth keeping, Fire in our hearts keep us breathing
This fire will fade away into the night, All the stars will die.
But we smile anyways, Through the night, Love is worth the fight"
I pray we may all find the light that fills, guides, cheers, warms, and heals. And in sharing it, it grows - into a house of God. Glow on!
